Using Methadone To Reduce The Withdrawal Symptoms In Heroin Addicts

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Heather_Colman] Heather Colman As a narcotic analgesic, Methadone is a synthetic pain reliever used to treat various conditions and relieve pain, as well as treating the addiction of heroin in users. Methadone is comparable to the characteristics and effects of morphine; in fact, it is extremely similar in the way it acts, as well. The major difference is that Methadone is introduced gradually and its action is mild upon onset. This prevents the patient from feeling euphoric or high when taking the medication. The dosage will be determined based on various aspects including their tolerance level and their weight. For example, as the patients cravings for heroin decreases the dosage of Methadone is decreased as well. However, even though Methadone is used to treat addictions, some addicts choose to use the drug as a way to get their fix. As a result, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has defined Methadone as a Schedule II drug. There are three forms of Methadone, injection, tablets, and oral solutions. It is made with the active ingredient called Methadone hydrochloride. Dosage is set again by weight and addiction to heroin, however, no person should exceed the maximum daily recommendation of 100 milligrams. The drug is used to curb the effects of withdrawal symptoms that occur when a user quits using heroin. There are several side effects that can come with using Methadone. It is important that your physician monitors the use of Methadone closely and that any changes be reported immediately to him or her for evaluation. Some short-term side effects of this drug could include vomiting, restlessness, slowed breathing, nausea, pupil contraction, itchy skin, constipation, severe sweating, sexual dysfunction, and even death. Methadone could also have long-term use side effects that include respiration or lung problems. Women could also have specific side effects that may lead to lapsing menstrual cycles or changes. Furthermore, women could experience complications in pregnancy if the dosage levels are reduced while the woman is pregnant. In general, the risks of these side effects can be reduced by keeping in close contact with a physician and having them monitor the use. Illegal uses of Methadone have been identified as causes for death among abusers. Because people have no real idea of the effects of Methadone, overdosing by abusers is on the rise. If not carefully monitored by a physician a Methadone patient could become addicted to the drug, which would lead to tolerance and addiction. This would all subsequently lead to withdrawal symptoms when the dose is decreased or stopped. Be sure to keep all appointments with your doctor, while taking Methadone and report any changes immediately. Daphnes for Scent and Colour

By Geoff Bryant Anyone with even a passing knowledge of plants knows that daphnes have wonderfully fragrant flowers. And because some of them - usually the most scented - flower in winter, they’re the sort of must-have plants that are usually among the first planted in any new garden. There are around 50 species of Daphne, many of which are choice garden specimens. They are widespread lot, ranging from Europe and North Africa to temperate and subtropical Asia. Most of them are evergreen or nearly so, but a few are deciduous, often flowering before the foliage expands. The plant everyone calls daphne is Daphne odora, particularly the cultivar ‘Leucantha’ , which is often misspelt ‘Leucanthe’ . This shrub, a native of China and Japan, sells in vast numbers, mainly on the strength of its perfume, but also because it’s a reasonably hardy evergreen bush. It grows to around 1.5m tall with leathery, deep green leaves up to 80mm long. From mid-winter on into spring it produces clusters of small, starry, pale pink flowers. Several flower and foliage forms are available and the variety with yellow-edged leaves, ‘Variegata’ (sometimes called ‘Aureomarginata’ ), is often hardier and easier to grow than the species. Daphne odora can be quite particular about soil conditions and is slightly frost tender in cold winter areas. It does best in cool, moist, humus enriched, well-drained, acid soil in sun or light shade. Work in plenty of compost or similar organic matter - it’s impossible to use too much - and feed regularly with liquid fertilisers and an occasional side dressing of acid fertiliser. Kept healthy, D. odora develops quickly and is attractive even without flowers, but it isn’t a long-lived bush. You can expect to have to replace it at least every 8-10 years. Because daphnes are so popular, nurseries propagate thousands of them every year. For many years the plants were nearly all cutting-raised and with repeated propagation by this method the cutting stocks declined and became badly infected with viral diseases that were transmitted to their progeny. Around fifteen years ago Daphne odora ‘Leucantha’ was refreshed by producing new plants by tissue culture, thereby eliminating most of the disease problems. At the time, the improved appearance of these virus-free “high-health” plants was remarkable. Although since then new batches of tissue cultured plants have been introduced, many of the original high-health daphnes were used as cutting stock and now these plants are showing viral problems. When buying ‘Leucantha’ try to ensure that you get a tissue cultured plant or a first or second generation cutting from cultured stock. Several other species are similar in appearance to Daphne odora and are well worth growing as slightly different alternatives to what everyone else has. Of these, Daphne bholua and Daphne laureola are the most commonly available. Daphne bholua occurs in both deciduous and evergreen forms, but here they all seem to behave as semi-evergreens (or semi-deciduous if you like). It is shrub up to 3m tall, sometimes rather narrow and open in habit, that like Daphne odora flowers in winter and spring. The flowers are strongly scented, white-tinged-pink and open from deep pink buds. Black fruits (drupes) follow the flowers. First classified in 1825 but slow to enter cultivation, it is one of a group of four species known as paper daphnes because in their home range paper and ropes were made from their bark. It was first recorded in gardens in 1938, but didn’t really become at all widely grown until the late 1960s to mid 70s. Native to the eastern Himalayas, it is somewhat tougher than Daphne odora under New Zealand conditions. Though strangely, British references often rate it as slightly less hardy. Whatever the reason for its local success, just be happy to know that in most of our gardens it thrives. Daphne bholua is difficult to raise from cuttings and although it can be grafted, seed is the best method of propagation. The seed germinates well and while the seedlings are slow to start into strong growth, they gain vigour with age and usually flower in their fourth year. bad check to payday loan education minnesota short term loans bad credit auto bank loan free government cash loans

Asthma Treatment Ways

By Bruno Brown Asthma can be treated in many ways 1. Using conventional medicines and therapies 2. Using alternative medicines such as herbs or other traditional medicines 3. By using alternative therapies such as Yoga, Acupuncture, etc… Every type of therapy has its own scope and time span. The first and the most widely accepted therapy is the conventional medicines and procedures. In this procedure of asthma treatment, the patient is treated in two ways 1. Short term treatment 2. Long term treatment Short term asthma treatment involves the instant relief of the patient from asthma attacks. Short term treatment involves the administration of inhalers and orally administered drugs. Asthma cannot be cured, but the scope of asthma can be controlled with the help of a proper asthma management program. Short term treatment is done mainly by using Metered Dose Inhalers or MDIs. Dry powder inhalers are also gaining favor in the treatment of asthma. For those patients who cannot use the MDIs, nebulizer therapy is used. Long term asthma treatment involves more of Parallel treatment and lesser use of drugs. In parallel asthma treatment, environmental components and surrounding analysis is done to minimize the factors that lead to Asthma attacks. In this type of treatment environment components such as pollen grains, allergens etc are minimized from the patients surroundings to minimize the chances of an asthma attack. For this it is necessary that the patients place of residence be cleaned every week, the patient must be kept away from pets with fur or feather, weekly washing of the bedding of the patient in hot water. Avoid using synthetic material in the patients bedding, replace upholstery based furniture to vinyl or leather ones. Remove carpeted floors. They may contain dust particles that could cause problems to the asthma patient. Use the Air conditioner to protect the patient from subtle temperature changes. Keep the house dry. Humidity effects the asthma patient. After the parallel asthma treatment is completed, lung functioning is monitored to look for effective changes. After this, medicines like corticosteroids and bronchodilators are administered. Periodic check up is necessary to know about any changes in the condition of the patient. For patients have persistent asthma attacks, an annual dose of influenza vaccine is necessary. Written by Bruno Brown for Asthma Treatment. Breast Implant Augmentation Surgery: Tips To Follow Before You Have Your Operation

By Polly Summer Make preparations at home for your life to be super-simple. For example, buy microwave meals so that you are not having to cook from scratch. Get anything on shelves down prior to having surgery, so you will not have to stretch when you get back. Have all shirts laid out that do not require stretching (ie: being pulled over your head). Make sure you have a drink, tissues, and pain killers by your bed - and do not forget the remote control! Have your house spotless ready for your return, as you will not feel like cleaning when you get back. Make sure your car is full of gas, to give yourself the longest amount of time possible before needing to pump gas again. Water all your plants! Buy a range of cheap bras in varying cup sizes. Pad them out yourself and wear them around underneath your clothing to get used to different sizes and heaviness. Use this to gauge what cup size you are most comfortable with, and how large you want to go. Take pictures of yourself in different cup sizes - which looks best? It is a good idea to start sleeping on your back, as you will need to after the surgery. Try to work on your stomach muscles too, to help you get up from bed. Generally get on a health kick by eating healthily and exercising, as this will aid your body to recover much more quickly. It also helps to reduce any stress and anxiety you may be feeling prior to surgery. Get a notepad ready or a timer so you can remember to take your medication (or remind yourself that you have already taken it). Keep a diary of your progress, and to be able to note any questions that come up after surgery. Take ‘before’ photographs to compare afterwards! Shave or wax your underarms prior to surgery: you will not feel like doing this for some time afterwards. If you are nervous, ask for medication to help you sleep the night before surgery. Nausea and constipation can be experienced after surgery. Be prepared for this with some medication. Standard advice before any surgery: leave your nails unpainted, as these are checked for problems associated with blood and oxygen circulation during surgery. Find out when the last time you can eat before surgery is, or it may be postponed, and make sure you have someone to be with you for the first 48 hours after surgery. Waiting for a Train

By Stephen Kaye Four-thirty-five in the afternoon finds me once again waiting for a train, returning from another hair-done, pressed-jacket, best-shoes-and-smile Job interview. The last hour sits heavily on my mind and thinking about it, I don’t know what the outcome of the interview will be. “After-interview syndrome” leaves me feeling either on top of the world, visualising how much I’m going to enjoy the job I think I’ve just won, or walking away painfully conscious of all the things I should have said and done, but didn’t. PERSONALITIES I’ve had extensive “Employment Interview training” with various people. Private Agencies, The Employment Service, “Executive Job Club”, and my fifteen years experience in professional sales gives me other skills to call on. But I still conclude that where interviews are concerned, it’s down to personalities. Either the Interviewer likes you or not. If so, you’re in with a chance. If not, - no matter how well qualified you are - no job. Not in most fields anyway. Everyone has their own opinions, likes and dislikes. “Equal Opportunity for all” is a marvellous concept, but like racism and other Social ills, you can’t really legislate against personal taste. CHOICE Several years ago, I was interviewed by someone who quite obviously took to me. I answered his questions poorly and made many other mistakes in the interview, including accepting the cigarette which was offered, (against all the rules) and joining my interviewer in some very bad jokes. We got on and I got the job! In previous interviews where I was one-hundred-and-ten-per cent qualified, with all the right experience in all the right places, I’ve answered questions perfectly, carried it all off by the book, and afterwards received negative response. You can’t odds it, as they say. There seem to be no rules. The Employment market today belongs to the Employers and they can choose exactly who they want to employ. Exact qualifications, the exact person with the exact experience they want. GETTING WHAT YOU WANT Your chances of getting exactly the job YOU want and are well qualified for, with the company of your choice and at the right salary, are practically nonexistent today. Unless of course, you really ARE the best in your field (in which case you’re probably not out of a job!). Applying for a position for which you are merely VERY WELL QUALIFIED is still a long shot. But the chances of an employer procuring someone who fits their profile exactly are extremely high. That’s the way the Employment market is right now, and it may be that way from here on out. NO REWARDS? Sitting at the station contemplating the effort and expectation I’ve put into yet another interview, I can genuinely sympathise with anyone who is actively engaged on the job search trail. It has all the potential necessary for total self-destruction and very few rewards until and unless you win a job. On two occasions in the past three years I’ve “beaten” others from a list of over 300 to become one of the last TWO candidates for one vacancy. Both times I came second. After exhausting interviews, days of homework preparing presentations, and maintaining a positive attitude which Gandhi or Mother Theresa would be proud of, the sense of loss is immense. There are no prizes for second place when there’s only one vacancy ……. Three hours ago I sat on the train here, bright-eyed, bushy tailed, and going to incredible lengths to keep even the smallest unwanted crease from my jacket, neurotically flicking away even the tiniest dust mote. But now the homeward train rumbling into the station pulls my thoughts free. I climb aboard and slump into a free seat. Carelessly, I run my fingers through my hair and ponder ……. “What shall we have for tea?” Stephen Kaye is an Author and businessman living in Devon. How to Remove Hair Dye

By Brenda H. Murphy Most women who choose to color their hair, do it at home. It’s not that difficult, and you get it done just the way you want. Unfortunately, you often do a little more than you want, and are left wondering how to remove hair dye from a variety of surfaces, including you! The first tip, is that when dying your hair, apply a border of Vaseline around the edge of your scalp. Make it an area perhaps an inch wide or more. Yes, it feels a little greasy, but it will save you the work of trying to scrub off dye stains at the base of your neck where you can’t even see what you’re doing. If you do have hair dye stains, there are commercial removers to be bought at hair salons (after all, they make mistakes too), but you can get the same results with your toothpaste. The make up of toothpaste means that it contains just enough abrasive to help remove the dye from your skin, without irritating it. Rub it in with your gloved fingers, or use an old toothbrush. When the dye falls on clothing, get it off and into cold water, immediately. Soak until the stain is all or mostly removed. Wring out and place on a firm surface, then use an old toothbrush to work a dishwashing detergent into the stain. Rinse and launder as usual but air dry in case the stain is not completely gone. If there is some mark left, soaking it overnight in one of the OxyClean products may help. Removing The Foreskin of Your Heart

By Yang Kang Lim And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. -Deuteronomy 30:6 Circumcision has a marvelous spiritual significance. For one thing, a believer cannot receive his inheritance until he is circumcised. This was true outwardly for an Isrealite, and it is true inwardly for a Christian. There is no inheritance until we are circumcised in our hearts. God told Abraham that before he and his descendants could inherit the land of Canaan, they had to be circumcised (Gen. 17:1-14). Circumcision is to cut away the flesh. Spiritually, it is cutting away of the natural, sinful, Adamic nature we are born with. Uncircumcision represents uncleanness. It means that what we are born with has not yet been dealt with. It signifies that the old nature, with its wrong desires, ways, thought patterns, and responses, still remain. “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word” (Ps. 119:9). How does God circumcise our hearts? By the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God applied to our lives by the working of the Holy Spirit. There are a few evidences of a circumcised heart: (1) A circumcised heart is compliant. “Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer” (Deut. 10:16). To be “stiff-necked” is to be rebellious, inflexible and stubborn. (2) A circumcised heart does not resist the Holy Spirit. “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in hearts and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you” (Acts 7:51). (3) A circumcised heart does not resist preachers sent by God (7:52). (4) A circumcised heart is humble, broken and repentant. “But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me … if their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guilt–then I will remember my covenant…” (Lev. 26:40-42). (5) A circumcised heart is quick to forgive and release people for the offenses they have committed. A hardened heart cannot easily forgive but remembers and cherishes grudges (Matt.19:7-8; Mark 10:4-6). Ask the Holy Spirit to enter your heart and take the sword of the Spirit to remove the unwanted nature of your flesh, that you may enter into a more intimate relationship with God.
